about

Guitars (and Fender Rhodes on track 1) Recorded/Mixed in my apartment over the month of January 2012. Tracks 1 & 2 were recorded via shure57/58 microphones and a Fender Twin (sliver face) and Vox VR-30. Track 3 was direct guitar/pedals/tape delay into computer.

Some 0's and 1's about the record:

"With ‘suchness music’ I get the sense that actually going track-by-track and describing what I’m hearing is ultimately futile, and worse, harmful. The point is in the individual experience and journey, and no amount of music critic adjective abuse is going to help. All I can do is give my highest, warmest recommendation for a criminally unknown artist.." -Aroon K. @Fineprint Magazine fineprintmag.net/2012/cinchel-stereo-stasis

"When it comes to more immediate, universal comparisons, one might catch a whiff of Emerson, Lake & Palmer in the opening track and professed artist idol Fennesz in the second, but Cinchel has been honing his sound slowly over the past few years and does not sound entirely like either. He’s able to incorporate influences without being engulfed by them.." - Richard Allen @ A Closer Listen acloserlisten.com/2012/06/19/cinchel-stereo-stasis/

"The mood isn't harsh or dejected, but either exuberantly gleeful – in relation to the Drone genre – or deeply mesmerizing and comforting. A strong release, all the more so due to its skillfully warped, heavily reworked guitar layers." Björn Werkmann @ Ambient Exotica www.ambientexotica.com/ambrev098_cinchel_ss/

"There is stasis within this work, but not that of a ruthlessly fixed state; it’s a stasis that maintains itself within a constant cycle of movement, with each sound continuously re-shaped to accommodate the introduction and departure of texture – like a perfect sphere spinning on its axis, caught in an illusionary stillness by the impeccable symmetry of its construct, the only visible change being the colours within it that forever fade and mutate." Jack Chuter @ ATTN:Magazine www.attnmagazine.co.uk/music/5806

"The last track of the release is "Wandering/Collapse/Breakdown/Ultimate Heat Death" is a haunting thirteen minute opus that touches on Sigur Ros territory as it slowly builds, falls apart and reassembles itself again. While Cinchel plays locally around the Chicago area, it would be great to see him come out for a show in Los Angeles. In the meantime, I will just keep listening to Stereo Stasis to pass the time." - Andrew Youssef @ Amateur Chemist amateurchemist.blogspot.com/2012/08/from-lab-cinchel-stereo-stasis.html

"2012 finds Cinchel in a guitar oriented ambient and drone dream state. Listening to the first two of the three tracks, you might not really have guessed that the guitar was the instrument of choice. Cinchel masterfully toys and draws out wondrous sounds with it, creating something wholly unique – a sort of subdued melody that quickly gets swept up in a gentle haze of other subtle melodies" - Nick Hadad @ tuningintoobscure tuningintoobscure.wordpress.com/2012/10/23/ambient-bliss-ciinchel-stereo-stasis/

about

cinchel Chicago, Illinois

I am a Chicago based musician working with guitar, effects and laptop to create abstract ambient music that is both minimal and dense. My main focus has been the interaction of sounds/notes with themselves. With only the use of delay, layering and distortion I attempt to make a lot of guitars no longer sound like guitars.I like to call this minimal dense music for that reason. ... more
